Fans of The Simpsons have noticed how much Homer and Krusty the Clown resemble one another, but you might not be aware that this is all on purpose. In a recent TikTok video, user @lwham said that Homer and Krusty the Clown’s similarity was intended to show Bart’s immaturity, adding that despite Krusty and his dad being alike, the former is idolized while the latter is despised.

The Simpsons fan explained that he even noticed how Krusty the Clown and Homer were extremely similar, and this is more evident when Krusty’s shown without makeup in the episode ‘Homer The Clown.’ He continued that this was not sheer coincidence. Rather, this was a defining part of Krusty’s character and a key element in the relationship between Bart, Homer, and Krusty. Bart idolizes Krusty the Clown, this is meant to show that even though Homer and Krusty look similar and share an equal level of silliness and stupidity, Bart treats them differently. Even before the show began, they planned for Homer to be Krusty the Clown as a sort of secret identity.
Brat = Bart!
Many people commented on this, and one of them even pointed out that Bart’s name had the word ‘brat’ in it. Others were negligent and stated that this was just a cartoon and the whole thing was way too deep to be true.
The creator of the show, Matt Groening, spoke about the Homer-Krusty controversy in 2007. He said that the original idea behind ‘Homer the Clown’ was that he was Homer in disguise but Homer still couldn’t get any respect from his son who worshiped Krusty instead of his father.
